Scriptures are our lifeline to God. What better way to spend time than to read God’s words? We can read of His life and of the parables He taught. He has given us a book full of lessons. Let’s learn them. Here are just a few insights the scriptures can bring into our life.
1. God is good.
God is good and scriptures allow us to recognize that, even if this principle is hard to understand in our day to day lives. There is a mercy of God and kindness that can only be seen in the Bible.
2. Life is hard.
Life is not always an easy road to follow. There are trials. There is death and there are struggles to live through. The same is true in the Bible. Jesus Christ himself was put to death. We may not have such extremity in our lives, but we do have hardship.
3. Stories teach us.
We can learn from the scriptures. Jesus Christ taught in parables so as to teach the righteous. In Matthew 13:34, it says, “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.” The wicked may have been confused by His stories, but the disciples understood. We can understand too and learn to live by the standards He taught.
4. There is an example to follow.
In the scriptures, we learn of the example that we are to follow as we live. We are to be like Jesus Christ. We are to humble ourselves. We should love our neighbor. We should become as little children.
5. It is important to love.
There are not many things in the bible that are defined in multiple ways. Love is an exception. 1 Corinthians teaches that love is patient, kind, does not envy, boast, and is not proud. “Love never fails.” With this in mind, it is obvious that God wants us to not only understand love, but to actually love others.
6. We can do all things through Him.
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13) He tells us that we can do anything through Him. Part of that lifeline is the scriptures. If we want to have His strength, we have to put forth the effort and look for it. The scriptures have it.
A whole series of books could be (and probably have been) dedicated to teaching us all just how important the scriptures really are. This small list is just a start, but it is a good reminder.
