The history of spiritual jewelry can be dated all the way back to ancient Egyptian times! In those early years, priests and leaders would adorn themselves in jewelry that signified their devotion to the gods. After the death of Christ, many Christians saw the Cross as a holy symbol, but one that should not be glamorized since it was a painful reminder of the death of the Savior. What is a Purity Ceremony

A Purity Ceremony is the time when a vow of purity is taken and a purity ring is received. God is almost always acknowledged, if not mentioned in the purity vow itself. Other names for purity ceremonies include: an abstinence ceremony and a true love waits ceremony.

Individual Decision:
One of the most important parts of a purity ceremony is an individual's dedication and commitment to abstain from sex until marriage. The vow of purity needs to be an personal individual decision. It should not be forced. Those who take the vow of purity need to be committed to the vow and of an age where they can understand the vow they are taking. Teenagers should not take a vow of purity just to please their parents. If a teenager is not planning on keeping the vow of purity, then there is no reason why they should take the vow. Purity vows must be taken with a sincere heart.

Parents Role:
Parents play a very important role in purity ceremonies. They need to be present at purity ceremonies. It is one of the best ways they can show support in their child's decision, especially when parents present the purity rings to their own children. It is also important for a parent to be sure their child is ready and understands what the vow of purity entails.

The Vow of Purity:
Vows can be taken in a public purity ceremony or a private purity ceremony. These vows are usually taken during the early teenage years but vows can also be taken when an individual is older. It is also very common for vows to be retaken during college or latter years. When vows are remade or retaken, it helps an individual re-commit and renew their desire to continue to stay abstinent.

Types of Ceremonies:
There are several different types and ways to hold a purity ceremony. They can be very simple or very elaborate and formal. There is not a complete standard way to have or hold a purity ceremony. They just need to include some type of vow of purity. A few common types of purity ceremonies are listed below.

Purity Balls:
One of the very elaborate and elegant type of purity ceremonies is a purity ball. They are symbolic of a wedding. Daughters & their fathers attend purity balls. The fathers come dressed in tuxedo and the daughters come dressed up in nice formal dresses. The evening is full of prayer, dancing, cake and the presentation of a purity ring or other purity item (a bracelet or necklace). The fathers at the purity ball make vows to protect their daughters virginity. While the fathers are making these promises, they present the purity item (usually a ring) to their daughters. The daughters are now under the guard and protection of their fathers. The daughters vow that they will stay abstinent and pure. (If a purity ring is presented, it is worn until it is replaced with a wedding ring.)

Purity Ceremonies:
Most churches have several different purity programs that youth can attend. These programs usually consist of relationship and Bible study classes. Once the program is completed, a purity ceremony takes place (like a graduation). Students make vows of purity publicly at these purity ceremonies. When the vow is taken, a purity item (usually a ring) is presented by a parent or guardian.

Other Types of Purity Ceremonies:
While many purity ceremonies are formal, they do not need to be. They can take place between a girlfriend or boyfriend to abstain from sex until marriage. They can also take place at a park, a restaurant or at home between a child and a parent. Other times they will take place when a few witnesses are present. Purity certificates are usually signed at presented during purity ceremonies. There are purity ceremonies that come in several different types. However, the ceremony is not as important as the vow to stay pure.

As Christians, we have been asked to build the church. Each one of us has been put into certain situations where our influence can be felt, but the method is the same for all of us—service. Service has endless benefits to the one serving and the one receiving the service, but today I want to talk about the two biggest blessings you will receive when you serve.

Service allows us to continue on the path of perfection

The most perfect example of service we have in this life is Jesus Christ. He selflessly and constantly served the people around him, no matter what. I don’t know about you, but I would definitely like to be perfected! By serving, you are opening your heart to the influence of God. Two of my favorite verses on how service allows us to be perfected are Hebrews 6:10 and Romans 12:1.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. HEBREWS 6:10 NIV

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

When we serve, we can experience the peace obedience brings

Although we have been given commandments, we have also been given agency. Remember this scripture?

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
GALATIANS 5:13 NIV

To me, this verse perfectly explains the peace that comes through obedience. We have been given agency, but when we use it to do good instead of bad, we can continue in our freedom. I hope that I, and you, can continue to choose the path of service so that we might all continue in love and peace.

Three Verses I Turn to For Encouragement

Each and every one of is needs some daily encouragement. Life can be complicated and frustrating, and we need a positive influence to help draw us out of any discouragement we may feel.

When I am in need of encouragement, I try and immediately turn to the Bible. There are so many comforting and reassuring verses that help me adjust my attitude. Here are three of my favorite encouraging verses:

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze

Joshua 1:9

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

I especially love that last verse because it reminds me that I am supposed to serve others. When I am down, I tend to throw a pity party and wish that people would pay more attention to my woes. But I find that when I am sad and talk to those around me, the other person and I are usually able to uplift and encourage one another. God puts people into our lives to help us draw closer to him, so listen to the people he has given you! See how you can help them and see how they, in turn, help you.

Overcoming A Season of Doubt

Have you ever found yourself struggling with faith and questioned if you can even still be considered Christian? I know I have.

You might be doing your best, reading the Bible and praying daily, and attending church every week, but deep inside of you there is still a part that has doubts.

THAT IS NORMAL!

Some of the most faithful people I know have come to their faith because of a season of disbelief. I truly believe that God has given us doubt in order to test our spirits and see if we will come closer to His word or go toward the world.

Disbelief can be a hard and frustrating thing to deal with, but it doesn’t need to define your life. Here are a few things you can do to overcome disbelief.

1. LET GOD KNOW.

Obviously, God is perfect and can perceive your thoughts (Psalm 139:2), but by actually telling Him that you are doubting, you are opening your heart to His help. When you find yourself questioning your faith, pray to God and let him know what exactly you are questioning. Ask for His help and he will certainly give it!

2. TAKE COMFORT IN THE BIBLE

Many faithful men and women are recorded in the Bible as doubting their faith. Remember that a desire to believe (Psalm 147:11) is really all God needs from you right now. In 1 Thessalonians we are reminded that the word of God is TRULY from God!

3. DON'T STRESS

Do not compare your spiritual journey to anybody else’s. Every person on the earth learns at their own pace and comes to know God and Jesus in their own time. Just because somebody you know is extremely confident in their faith right now doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you. God won’t abandon you ever, especially not on your journey to understanding.

3 Steps to More Meaningful Prayers

1. MAKE THE COMMITMENT

Daily prayers are so important and they require diligent efforts.

COMMIT yourself to saying daily prayers for 21 days. Research shows that those are the correct number of days needed to create a habit. Once prayer becomes an intentional habit you will be able to get much more out of your conversations with God.

2. FIND A QUIET PLACE

When you pray, make sure to do it in a quiet, private place. Conversations with God require silence, solitude, and focus. When you pick a regular place to spend a few minutes away from the world, your prayers will feel more comfortable and productive.

3. BE PATIENT

After your prayers, take some time to just BE. God doesn’t always answer your prayers immediately after you open your eyes. Pray for guidance and help and be aware that the Holy Spirit may be working on your heart without you even noticing.

3 Steps To Making Sense of The Fall of Man

The Fall of Man is a complicated and crucial part of Christianity. I don't think it's something that can fully be understood in a single study session, but I wanted to try and talk through the basics. I think studying these three attributes of The Fall can help anybody understand a little more about the event.

1. What Really Happened for Adam to Fall

In the Garden of Eden, God commanded Adam "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." (Genesis 2:16-17).

Adam and Eve eventually both did partake of the fruit. After they partook of the fruit, we learn that "the eyes of both of them were opened" (Genesis 3:7) and they understood their nakedness and guilt.

God returns to the garden to speak with Adam and Eve, but they "hid from the Lord among the trees of the garden" (Genesis 3:8) because their changed state allowed them to understand their sin.

God didn't create beings that had sinned, but when Adam and Eve disobeyed His commandments they fell from their state of innocence and thus fell into a state of mortality where sin was possible.

2. Why Are WE Punished Because of The Fall

It can be frustrating to understand why those of us on Earth now must still endure the punishments that Adam and Eve received when they sinned in the Garden.

In the most simple terms, Adam's fall made it so that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23); even though the initial sin wasn't our own, we are now able to to sin and therefore must die a mortal death in order to fulfill God's plan for us.

3. What Are Some Effects of The Fall

The first major effect, which we have talked about already, is that man became able to sin. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God's commandment they lost their righteousness.

A second effect was a physical separation from God. In the Garden, Adam and Eve were able to talk to God, but after eating the fruit "God banished [them] from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken" (Genesis 3:23).

If we continue reading in Genesis we learn the third consequence of the fall: that the ground inside and outside of the Garden was cursed.

The fourth effect is physical deal. God told Adam that he would return to the dust from which he was taken, as would all of his descendants.

And finally, because of the loss of innocence, man would be required to walk before God clothed. In our fallen world, nakedness is a source of shame, which was not an emotion felt in the perfect Garden.

Understanding the Fall is a lifetime pursuit, but we hope this blog helps you make a little more sense of its events!

Why Is It Important to Be Baptized?

Today we wanted to talk about baptism. Christians talk about baptism a lot, but do we really understand what it means and why it is important?

WHAT IS BAPTISM

Baptism is a way for you to be cleansed from sin and welcomed into the Body of Christ (church). It is a way for a Christian to declare his or her faith in God and their willingness to put sin behind them to start a new life following the example of Jesus Christ.

SO WHY DO WE DO IT?

In the simplest terms, because Jesus told us we need to. In Matthew 28 he commands the people to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit." Disciples of Christ were told that they are responsible for spreading Jesus' words.

OKAY...SO WHY DOES IT MATTER?

These are some of our favorite Bible verses explaining why baptism matters:

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ. | Galatians 3:27

When you are baptized, you are declaring that you will live your life in the same manner as Jesus Christ. You become his disciple and representative on earth. That is a huge responsibility, and one that should not be taken lightly. With this commitment you are promising to live out the remainder of your life as perfectly as you possibly can. Baptism is a decision that should be taken with sincere prayers to God. When it is the right time for you to be baptized, God will confirm it to you. Have you been baptized? What Does It Mean? | Glorify God

How many times have you been in church or around Christian friends and heard talk of glorifying God? I know I have heard it more times than I can count, but it wasn’t until recently that I realized I had never really sat down to think about what it really means. Let’s dive in.

To start, what does GLORIFY mean?

A quick Google search tells me that synonyms of glorify include praise, exalt, worship, and revere. Of those I think my favorite is revere. When you have reverence for something you treat it with the utmost respect. As we read in 1 Peter 2:17, we have been asked to “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”

So, how do we do it?

To me, glorifying God doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. It can mean praying for the ability to represent Jesus in every action you take. Everybody is capable of glorifying God, from a little child to the wealthiest men and women in the world. Glorifying takes faith and dedication to the word of the Lord, and understanding that “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (John 1:17).

What Does It Mean? | Walk With God

Early in the Bible we read a number of accounts of men walking with God. In Genesis 6 Noah is called a “righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God”. Now I don’t know about you, but reading that can be a little discouraging! I am trying to be righteous, but I am definitely not blameless and don’t think I have ever walked with God. But, say we interpret “walk with God” symbolically. What does that mean?

Walking, as referred to in the Bible, is often meant to represent a state of mind, instead of the physical act of putting one foot in front of another. In verses where walking is mentioned, it can sometimes be interpreted that walking with God means understanding Him, loving Him, and trying to be like Him.

Can two walk together, unless they are agreed? (Amos 3:3 NKJV)

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. (Psalm 119:1 NIV)

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. (Proverbs 13:20 NIV)

These three verses are teaching a very similar lesson: in order to walk with God, we must seek His wisdom and always try to align our lives with his teachings.

3 Ways to Stay Focused in Church

Have you ever sat in church and felt your mind and eyes wandering around the room? I know I have. As sincere as your heart is, sometimes paying attention through church is just plain hard. Read our 3 tips and let us know what helps you!

1. Take notes.

I like keeping a notebook or small pieces of paper in my Bible to jot down thoughts that come to my mind during church. Your notes don't have to be as extravagant or beautiful as the Bible journaling you've surely seen all over social media in order to matter. Even short scribbles can be a great way to refresh your memory about an impactful sermon or experience you had at church.

2. Make church about more than just the sermon.

Even God, who is capable of everything, "rested from all his work" (Genesis 2:2) on the seventh day. Sunday is a sacred day and a sermon is just part of the church experience. Church is a way for you to get to know God and your fellow Christian better. Pay attention to the sermon, but also pay attention to the needs of those around you. When you get to know your fellow church goers you will strengthen your relationship with them and your Christian community.

3. Try spending Sundays away from devices.

It is really, really hard to communicate with God while you're scrolling through your Instagram feed, even if it is full of inspiring Christian messages. Put your phone away during church and take in the words and music. It can be difficult but you will get so much more out of church when you are completely focusing your attention there!

True Freedom Comes Through Christ

This week, the United States of America celebrated their Independence Day. On the 4th of July 1776, colonists officially declared their independence from the British Empire. In their Declaration of Independence, they said the following:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Did you catch who they said gave them their rights? The Creator!

There are many ways that we as people can obtain freedom. As a child, if you followed the teacher’s classroom rules, you got the freedom to enjoy recess. As the citizen of whatever country you call home, you have freedom when you live the law of the land. Freedom always comes through adherence to a set of rules. The most lasting and enduring freedom comes through following Jesus Christ.

John 8:36 says “If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.” Jesus Christ came to earth, lived, and died in order to make each of us free. His life is our guide and example on how to act in this life if we want eternal freedom.

In Galatians 5:13 we are taught that “you were called to freedom...only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love.”

Living a life of selfless service is extremely difficult. As imperfect people we will always make mistakes. But the most beautiful thing about Christ’s love is that he doesn’t expect us to be perfect right now. His resurrection makes up for any shortcomings we have. Why Do Trials Happen? (Plus 2 Tips!)

When bad things happen to you or around you, how do you react? I wish I could say I didn’t do this, but often my first reaction is “why me?”. I have found myself actually saying out loud “if God really loved me I don’t think he would let this happen to me”. What an awful attitude! In my attempt to become a better Christian and with the help of our dear followers, I have come up with some answers to my questions and two things to do when trials seem overwhelming.

Why Me

As far as I understand, there isn’t a rhyme or reason to what trials are given to what person. This can be extremely frustrating, especially when you’re in the midst of a trial that you don’t think anybody around you has ever experienced before. But here’s the thing: everybody has trials. Though in your moments of deepest despair it may seem that you are the only person in the world who has ever experienced hard times, remember this -- suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:3-5).

TIP #1 I am currently in the midst of a number of trials due to circumstances completely out of my control. It can sometimes be easier for me to focus inward and sit alone and wallow in self pity. However, the healthier and more Christlike way to endure this season of testing is to look outward. When you are suffering, look to God’s perfect example. Serve others, read the Bible, and look outside yourself as much as possible.

If God Really Loved Me Why Is This Happening

It breaks my heart that those words have actually escaped my mouth before. God formed us and gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). What other evidence do we need of God’s overwhelming and unending love for us?! We are given trials as a way for us to strengthen our faith. As one Christian Jewelry Facebook fan said, “trials can become stepping stones or stumbling blocks”. God does love us, and that is WHY he gives us trials! He wants us to depend on Him more. The trials we are given are a chance for us to show God that we are committed to him and that we will not stray.

TIP #2 When you are in a trial that seems like it will never end, spend more time with your BIble and in prayer. I can say firsthand that when I am going through something upsetting or hard, the hardest thing can be to read scriptures or pray. But don’t let Satan’s influence drag you away from what you know you should be doing. Praying and Bible study won’t necessarily make your trial go away. But immersing yourself in the words and love of God daily can make trials seem lighter and will strengthen your faith.

We all know it can be hard to be a Christian today. The world is tumultuous and Satan tries every day to pull us away from our faith. We have come up with 4 ways to share your faith and maintain your testimony of God.

Be Authentic

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. | Romans 12:9 ESV

Jesus loved those around him with the most genuine love the world has ever known. Though we are imperfect, we can (and should!) always aspire to have that same love for those around us. Pray for the ability to genuinely love those you encounter. Don’t talk about people behind their backs or say cruel things. That is not Christlike.

Share Bible Verses

Be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. | Proverbs 4:20-22 ESV

When you have something you’re really excited about (say a treat or a funny picture), you want to share it with your friends and family right? Do the same with scriptures! Sharing Bible verses is a great way to express your faith and show others that you are committed to God. It is a great way to start conversations about Jesus and what he taught.

Do Good

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. | Galatians 6:9

When you actively seek out chances to help others, you are living and sharing your faith! God asked us to continue to do good throughout our lives and to help those around us no matter what. Jesus provided us a great example of this during his mortal life. Try and emulate his example this week and see how much easier your life becomes.

Why Does Prayer Matter?

In studying and preparing to write this blog, I came across the following Bible verses:

When you call me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:12 CEB)

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. (James 5:13 ESV)

To me, these two verses perfectly summarize why we should pray. To me, these two verses encapsulate the pure and unending love God has for us. We are literally promised that if we talk to him in sadness and happiness, He WILL listen to us. Isn’t that amazing?

Prayer can be difficult. It can be hard to know when to pray, what words to say, or if you’re even doing it right. But prayer is the only way we have to communicate with God while we are on earth. Since He cannot be here with us, He gave us prayer. The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16 ESV), and just as any loving parent on earth, God want to hear from us.

Prayer is our way to build and strengthen a relationship with God. Through prayer he can help us feel comfort and he can give us needed direction in life. Through prayer we grow and learn and become more like God.

One Instagram follower put it beautifully: “First, imagine that God is the best Father, the best Mother, the best friend that you could put into words and feelings. Now imagine that He is sitting right beside you. Why wouldn’t you talk to Him?”

Advice For New Christians

Deciding to become a Christian is a wonderful and scary choice. You have discovered truth, but Satan is now even more determined to lead you astray. We asked our social media followers what advice they would give to a new Christian. Their answers and our own thoughts make up this list.

1. Spend Time With God

Becoming a Christian isn’t a one time act. By continuing to pray and read the Bible daily, you will form a relationship with God that will last for the rest of time. Making the choice to be purified from sin…[and] dedicated to God (1 Corinthians 6:11 GNT) is wonderful, but it is a choice that must be made every day. Find a time each day to commit to studying in the Bible and praying to God in gratitude and your life will surely continue improving!

2. Don’t Stress if You Don’t Feel the Holy Spirit Daily

For most people, conversion to Christianity is a process instead of a single sacred moment. Remember that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not see (Hebrews 11:1 ASV). Although you only feel the Holy Spirit, this verse is a great reminder that confirmation doesn’t always come when you desire it to. Remember that if you have accepted Christ and continue living well, He will always be working on you. This is true whether or not you feel the Spirit at every moment of the day.

3. Seek Out Other Christians

If you have come to Christ outside of a church setting, find a congregation or group that can be your support. If you have come to Christ within a church setting, reach out to others around you. Now you are the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27) and as such you have been commanded to live as he did. Show love and kindness to others. Your faith might help those around you more than you presently realize.

4 Attributes of Christian Discipleship

The definition of disciple is relatively easy to understand. A disciple is one who follows a leader and who accepts and helps spread their doctrine (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Most people think that only Christ's original 12 apostles were disciples, but in reality everybody can (and should) be a disciple! Check out our list of what we think are the 4 most important attributes of Christian discipleship.

1. A Christian disciple puts Jesus first

Like the ancient disciples, we should put Jesus first in all things. Jesus taught us this when he said I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6 ESV). Putting Jesus first can be difficult, but this verse reminds us that we must do so in order to fully live our lives as Christian disciples. While it may be tempting to follow the trends of the world, we must remember that these will only bring temporary happiness. The only way we will be able to be happy forever is if we follow Jesus and allow his teachings to guide our lives.

2. A Christian disciple serves others

If we are truly following Jesus' pattern of living, we will want to serve those around us. The New Testament is full of examples of Jesus going out of his way to serve and uplift strangers and friends. When we lovingly server those around us, we can be an example of Christian discipleship. Remember, God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them (Hebrews 6:10). Your service will be recognized by God and he will bless you accordingly.

3. A Christian disciple seeks God

The job of discipleship is never done. It is not a decision that can be made in one minute and last the rest of your life. You must continue to seek after God and try to become better every day to truly be considered a disciple. When you go to the Lord for help, and worship him continually (1 Chronicles 16:11 GNT) you will find that your life as a disciple is so much easier. Rely on God no matter what and see what a difference it makes in your life.

4. A Christian disciple is unashamed

True disciples of Christ have no shame in their love for Jesus. Christianity is being attacked in the world, but knowing your values and refusing to compromise them will make you a great Christian disciple. When you are able to say for I am not ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16), you won't need to fear the world. Your confidence in God and in yourself will be able to carry you through even the hardest of trials.

How to Have a Godly Marriage

With wedding season upon us, we thought it would be appropriate to talk about Godly marriages. As a recent newlywed I know these reminders can make a huge difference in the quality of your marriage.

Pray With Each Other

Praying with your spouse is a great way to make sure that God is the focus of your relationship. It can be intimidating to begin praying with your spouse, but remember that he or she loves you! They will likely be cautious at first, but once you two begin praying together it will become a daily habit. You might feel vulnerable and nervous about asking God for help in front of your spouse. In my experience, I have been able to express spiritual desires in prayer with my husband I might not have been able to bring up with him in a normal conversation. Remember, The Lord is near to all who call on him (Psalm 145:18 ESV). When you pray as a couple God will allow you to draw closer to one another and to Him.

Work Together As Equals

As you work toward a Godly marriage, keep in mind that God created man in His own image....male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27 NASB). Both men and women were created to look like God, which means he sees equal potential in both genders. Treat your spouse as your equal, instead of your assistant or maid. Divide housework and other responsibilities equally between you, assigning tasks that mirror your individual talents and abilities. This avoids giving any individual in your relationship an "upper hand" that could lead to unnecessary or destructive fighting.

Be Completely Committed to Each Other

Monogamy is increasingly unpopular. Many people in the world are choosing not to marry and settle down with one partner because they don't want to miss out on dating. This attitude can even put stress on those who have chosen to marry. If you go out with single friends, be clear about your devotion to your spouse. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral (Hebrews 13:4 NIV). There is no room for infidelity in a Godly marriage. Both parties must honor the sacred bond of marriage and never forget the vows they made to their spouse and God.

We live in an increasingly negative world. The news, our social media streams, and the conversations around us are full of complaints and sadness. It can be hard to maintain a positive outlook while surrounded by so much negativity.

What can you do to avoid the spiral of negativity?

Here are 3 tips we think will help any Christian trying to stay positive:

1. Spend More Time Praying

Lasting life changes can never be made alone. You need God to help make up the difference when you fall short. Taking your attitude from negative to positive won't happen overnight - and that's okay! Praying daily and telling God about your desire to change your attitude allows him to see that you really want to change. As you pray, ask God to help you not conform to the pattern of this world (Romans 12:2 NIV). Sincere prayers will show God that you are ready for your mind to be transformed.

2. List Your Blessings

A great way to keep positivity as your focus is to list out your blessings. This can be done in a notebook or on a list app on your phone. Make sure this list can be easily found so you can look at it and add to it daily. Keep in mind that blessings aren't always huge miracles; sometimes they're as simple as not having to wait in line at the coffee shop for a long time. As you list your blessings, remember that every good and perfect gift is from above (James 1:17 NIV). By taking time each day to be grateful for your blessings, God will allow you to see his hand in everything.

3. Go Easy on Yourself

Above all, keeping a positive attitude has to start with loving yourself. God wants you to succeed no matter what obstacles you might be facing. Remember that you are altogether beautiful; there is no flaw in you (Song of Solomon 4:7 ESV). Progress is a lifelong quest. When you remember that God created a perfect you, it will make seeing the good around you so much easier.

Spring is a time of renewal! The cold of winter melts away to brighter, warmer days. It is a beautiful analogy for the fresh starts Jesus Christ can offer us. Here are a few things Christians can learn about Jesus from springtime.

Winter Will End

In the midst of hard times, we may feel Jesus has abandoned us and our trials will never end. We need to remember bad days come to an end. All that is cold and harsh about life can be made right through Christ. It isn’t always easy to do; we often must exercise faith and patience that seems beyond us.

New Things Can Grow

No matter what our sins are or what tragedies we have faced, God can help new and beautiful things grow. Some of these seeds of goodness may have even been planted in the midst of adversity. The History of the Ichthus Symbol

Many Christians may recognize a familiar fish symbol on bumper stickers and religious jewelry. Known as the “ichthus” or “ichthys,” this symbol has a rich and interesting history.

What Is the Ichthus?

The ichthus symbol consists of two arches that intersect on one end, creating a fish shape. It is often called the “Jesus fish” or the “sign of the fish.” It dates back to the 2nd century in Christian symbology. It may have been derived from other popular fish images of the day, representing certain gods and goddesses and being seen as both a taboo and sacred food.

The Greek spelling of icthys also has mnemonic meaning. The letters represent important Christian words, including Jesus, anointed, son, and Savior.

How Did Christians Use the Ichthus?

There are many thematic uses of the fish in the Bible. Jesus fed the 5,000 with fish. Many of the Apostles were fishermen, and Christ filled their nets. He even told them to be fishers of men.

The fish symbol was also an easy way to avoid the intense persecution of Christians from the Roman empire. One legend states if a Christian drew an arch in the sand and if the stranger completed the ichthus symbol by drawing the arch, they would know they were both Christians and were in good company. Most often, the ichthus marked meeting places and tombs, being chiseled into stone.

Modern Ichthus Jewelry

It wasn’t until the 1970s that the ichthus symbol became popular as a modern representation of Christianity. However, it is now available on multiple products and recognized worldwide.
